Quantic - The 5th Exotic

Quantic - The 5th Exotic

A couple of weeks ago, I was lucky enough to come across a VERY rare 2x LP version for sale on eBay, and naively dropped a $40 maximum bid. Five days later, the item sold for an astounding $147. It was used and in VG+ condition. Kicking my self in the ass for not discovering Quantic sooner... One of the best instrumental albums ever.

Stereolab - Aluminum Tunes: Switched On, Vol. 3

Stereolab - Aluminum Tunes
Picked this one up in the used bin. The first record is pretty warped, but it still plays decent. I don't really know much about this album other than it was released on the Drag City label in 1998. A few songs are definite spin offs of earlier works or precursor projects to later ones. According to the bands' official website, "Initial quantities of the CD were issued in an all cardboard sleeve. Some people experienced 'nipple' [the cardboard disk that held the CD in place] failure but a swift dab of glue generally rectified the problem."

N.A.S.A. - The Spirit of Apollo (2009)

I had no idea who NASA was when I first saw this the other day, but the list of cameo appearances and featured artists was too good to let go unnoticed. David Byrne, Gift of Gab, Z-Trip, Chuck D, Method Man, RZA, O.D.B., KRS-One, E-40, Tom Waits, Kanye West, Sizzla, Kool Keith, Santogold, George Clinton, M.I.A., Spank Rock, Del the Funky Homosapien, Ghostface Killah, Scarface, and I didn't even name them all! Not sure how they pulled this off, but they did.  Party music, for sure.

New Order - 1981.1982 EP

FACTUS 8 was released in November of 1982, and is a collection of previously released New Order singles. "Typography cool" pioneer Peter Saville was responsible for the cover design. His girlfriend at the time, Martha Ladly, did the artwork.

Fela Kuti - Roforofo Fight (1972)

This is a one of Fela's better albums, with six incredible afrobeat jams that are just weird enough. Sure to turn some heads and prompt your friends to ask "What the fuck are you listening to!?"

UNKLE - The Time Has Come EP (1994)

Also known as "A Tribute to Sun Ra and All Things Fucked Up!", this was UNKLE's first offical release. The core of 90's Trip Hop music. Listen to them then and listen to them now. Not even close.

Flowering Inferno - Death of the Revolution (2008)

An awesome six track collection of three 45 LP's for your listening pleasure. The full CD release has four additional tracks. Quantic; continuing to kick ass.

Journey Through the Past: A Film by Neil Young

Soundtrack to the very bizarre 1972 movie by Neil Young, Journey Through the Past. Follow Neil and his buddies Crosby, Stills, and Nash as they tour the American Deep South. The perfect combination of Rock-n-Roll, weed, and Jesus.

Stereolab - Serene Velocity Anthology (2006)

Not Ernie Gerhr's experimental short film, but rather a solid compilation of material originally released during the band's Elektra years.
